Real estate in Bulgaria has been
given a boost with the news that mortgage loans for foreign nationals (as well
as Bulgarians working abroad) have returned to the Bulgarian banking market. House

reports on the recent article in Bulgarian daily newspaper The Sofia Echo which
states that these loans are back on the market due to "reviving demand, banks
and credit consultants".
On July 13th,
Bulgarian bank UniCredit Bulbank announced it had launched mortgages for
foreigners and Bulgarians working abroad who could choose from a list of 22 Bulgarian real estate projects
backed by the bank. This is an example of new requirements levied by some banks
when offering these mortgages. Foreigners looking to buy Bulgarian property need not
be disheartened by the thought of a lack of choice or sub-standard bank-funded
projects. There is a wide choice of quality real estate projects which have
bank funding, including some in Bulgaria's key resorts*.
