How to Ship Your Stuff to Bulgaria - 07 June, 2011
If you are considering moving to your property in Bulgaria, or retiring there, the chances are good that you will want to ship some or all of your possessions. Although the case is with most items that it is easier to throw them away and purchase a new one in Bulgaria, sometimes you will have priceless keepsakes or valuable items that you will want to transport to your new property in Bulgaria.

Did you know that if you obtain a residency visa in Bulgaria, you might be able to receive tax breaks on the items that you ship to your real estate in Bulgaria? This is another added bonus that makes moving or retiring to this beautiful European country easier.

So how do you go about shipping your belongings to your real estate in Bulgaria? Here are some helpful tips:

•    Before you pack everything away in boxes, create a detailed inventory of everything that is going to be shipped. This will help you keep track of what you are sending to your property in Bulgaria, and it will also be required for the customs declaration.

•    You will need to tag all packages with a description of the item and an estimated worth. For example, if you are shipping furniture you would tag the box with the age and the value of the items of furniture inside. You should value all items on the low side if they are used, because they will have very little commercial value.

•    Pack your items very carefully, and be sure to wrap delicate and breakable items in plenty of bubblewrap!

•    Don’t arrange your shipping until you have already obtained your residency visa for Bulgaria. If you arrange shipping before arriving at your property in Bulgaria, you run the risk of your items arriving before you can claim the customs duty exemption, because your visa has not come through yet. You will have to pay a lot more because of the expensive duty fees

•    Choose a reputable shipping company with contacts in Bulgaria and custom broker, so that you can be sure you are getting door-to-door service.

•    If you are shipping a car to Bulgaria, take a look at the age limit for imported cars as yours might be too old.

•    It is a good idea to get insurance on your belongings, and make sure that it represents the actual replacement value of your belongings and not just the value you are using for customs.

•    Number each box so that you can remember and track them easily, and set it up so that the numbers correspond to a separate written list.
Soon, your prized possessions will have made their way down to Bulgaria and joined you in your new home.
