Three Ways to Learn About the Culture in Bulgaria - 23 June, 2011
When you purchase real estate in Bulgaria and move abroad to this beautiful European country, you will find that the culture here is very different than you might be used to at home. Adjusting to the culture after moving to your property in Bulgaria may take a while.

However, the more you learn about the culture of Bulgaria, the richer and more meaningful your experience of living abroad will be, and the more you will enjoy yourself. When you move to your real estate in Bulgaria, the best thing to do is to embrace the local culture and enjoy it as much as you can. Keep an open mind, and learn all you can about this new world that you now call home.

So how can you get a better understanding of what life in Bulgaria is really like? Here are three helpful tips:

1.    Do your research.
Before you even move to your property in Bulgaria, you can be preparing yourself in advance by learning about the culture, customs, and traditions of the area where you have purchased real estate in Bulgaria. You can do this easily by using the internet and reading about Bulgaria on the various websites available. You can also head to your local library and read as many books as you can about the country, and rent Bulgarian films to give you a sense of the setting and the culture.

2.    Make friends with a local.
Getting to know a local Bulgarian during your stay at your property in Bulgaria will really help you get a true glimpse into the culture. They will be able to show you all of their favourite places to eat, drink, and visit, and teach you the subtle ins and outs of the customs and traditions. You can ask them questions about anything that you don’t understand and help you figure things out.

3.    Go beyond the tourist destinations.
When you only spend your time in touristic locations, you will only run into other expats just like you. This can be comforting, but it will not give you any deeper insight into what it means to live the Bulgarian life. If you wanted to eat the same food and have the same conversations as back home all the time, why move abroad? Don’t be afraid to venture beyond the tourist neighbourhoods and partake in what the local people enjoy. Your new Bulgarian friend can perhaps help you find somewhere like this to go.

Exploring the local culture will help you find your place in this new country, and appreciate life in Bulgaria on a much deeper and more profound level. Keep an open mind, and enjoy yourself!
