Things to Do on Your Holidays to Bulgaria - 19 September, 2011
Bulgaria is a beautiful country in the Balkans on the west of the Black Sea. Although it is not as well-known as a holiday destination compared to other European nations such as Spain and Greece, holidays to Bulgaria have everything that you could dream of in a travel experience such as gorgeous beaches, historical churches, lively cities and skiing resorts. Holidays to Bulgaria have a lot of activities for the curious traveller to discover, and with many cheap flights to Bulgaria being offered by budget airlines in European there is no reason not to explore this fascinating country. 

If you are planning your Bulgaria holidays, here are some ideas of what you can do while you are there:

Visit the National Museum of History in Sofia, which contains more than 650,000 exhibits and is one of the largest museums of history in the Balkans. The museum presents a detailed history of Bulgaria from prehistoric times to the present. This museum is very large, and the curious traveller could spend hours discovering all that it has to offer. 
Visit Bansko, a picturesque ski resort at the foot of the Pirin Mountains. There are many beautiful mountain peaks around the town perfect for skiing and snowboarding in the wintertime, and pine woods and lakes for hiking around in the summer. 
Take a tour of the Kordoplov House in the town of Melnik. This home was built in 1754 for a rich merchant and was used for wine production, and is the largest of its kind from this period. The mix of Ottoman and Venetian architecture and the Venetian glass in this home make it unique in Bulgaria. 
Go exploring in the Magura Cave, which is near the village of Rabisha. There are many bones from prehistoric animals such as cave bears and cave hyena which have been found in these ancient caves, and on the walls you will see cave paintings from the Neolithic Age and the early Bronze Age. 
Serious hikers can take on the challenge of Vihren, the highest peak of the Pirin Mountains. 
If you are bringing your children on a holiday to Bulgaria, take them to the Sofia Zoo in the capital city. This is the oldest and largest zoo in Bulgaria and it home to 244 different species of animals. 
Take a trip to the Monastery of Saint Ivan of Rila, which is also called the Rila Monastery. It the biggest and most well-known Eastern Orthodox monastery in the country and is located in the stunning South Western Rila Mountains. It was founded in the 10th century, by Ivan of Rila. This is one of the most important historical, cultural and architectural monuments in the country, and is a popular destination for those on Bulgaria holidays. 
There are many cheap flights to Bulgaria available and such a huge amount of fun things to do once you get there, making Bulgaria a very tempting and affordable holiday destination!
